Manufacturing System

City Machine has reinvented the trunnion machine. For decades, we have been a leader in supplying trunnion machines to manufacture valves and automotive parts. Our unique sliding head design allows the cutting tools in the horizontal heads to be changed outside the machine. Systems in our customers' factories produce drive train parts for many of the world's rear wheel drive vehicles. The CityMachine CNC Trunnion Manufacturing System is a robust design that meets today's demands for high volume production and world class quality.
 
We currently offer two models:
CityMachine™ Heavy Duty Trunnion (HDT)

  • Sliding spindle carriers allows tool changes outside the machine
  • Up to 20 HP
  • Six workholding stations, each equipped with a two-jaw chuck that can use an interchangeable top jaw
  • Indramat® CNC and Indramat® servo drive units
  • Coolant and chip removal system

  CityMachine High Performance Trunnion (HPT)

  • Sliding spindle carriers allows tool changes outside the machine
  • 5, 7.5 or 10 HP
  • Eight workholding stations, each equipped with a two-jaw chuck that can use an interchangeable top jaw
  • Indramat® CNC and Indramat® servo drive units
  • Coolant and chip removal system

Base

  • Thick steel walls assure a rigid mounting for the sliding heads.

Face Coupling

  • Casting is mounted to the base wall. One half of an approximately 24 (600 mm) inch diameter face coupling is mounted to the massive casting.
  • The face coupling will determine the accuracy of the indexing drum.
  • No shot-pins are used.

Indexing Drum & Trunnion Shaft

  • Indexing drum is a rigid weldment with hydraulic passages interdrilled to
    supply hydraulic oil to the fixtures.
  • Fixtures are mounted on the flat surfaces on the periphery of the
    indexing drum.
  • The mating half of the face coupling is mounted to the indexing drum.
  • The shaft is supported on either end with massive bearings similar to the
    mounting of cannon barrels.
  • The shaft holds the drum in position when it is unclamped from the face
    coupling for rotation.

Sliding Heads

  • The CityMachine™ CNC Trunnion Manufacturing System features durable sliding spindle heads. The spindle heads can be retracted to a position outside the base for easy tool change.
  • The spindles are furnished with quick-change tooling adapters. The spindle heads are mounted on antifriction ways, positioned by ball screws and driven by servomotors.
  • The CityMachine Trunnion Manufacturing System does not use quill heads unless special applications require their use.

 

Hydraulic System and Lubrication

  • The CityMachine™ Trunnion Manufacturing System has self-contained hydraulics with the appropriate filtration.
  • Easy to service, the unit's temperature is maintained with an oil-to-air cooling system.
  • An automatic lubrication system is used to supply lubricants where needed.

 

Coolant System

  • Cutting fluid is supplied by a self-contained dual pump system.
  • Low pressure pump supplies fluid to cool the cutting tools and flush chips into the chip conveyor.
  • High pressure pump supplies coolant through the spindles and tools.

Machine Controls

  • The CityMachine™ CNC Trunnion Manufacturing System is supplied with Indramat controls for an operator friendly experience.
  • The insertion of a pre-programmed part number is all that is needed to change from one part program to another.
  • Diagnostics are on board for ease of trouble-shooting.

 

Workholding Fixtures

  • City Machine's vast experience in high production workholding fixturing assures a reliable system.
  • The workholding fixtures are mounted to the indexing drum using quick-change mounting.
  • Change over from one part to another is fast and simple.
